justteachers are supporting a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in [Location] in their search for a Food Technology Teacher to start in April. This provision supports students aged 11-16 who have been excluded from mainstream education or require additional support due to SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs and behavioural challenges.

We are looking for a creative and engaging Food Technology Teacher who can deliver practical and theoretical lessons that develop students’ confidence, independence, and employability skills in a structured and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and practical Food Technology lessons, covering topics such as nutrition, food hygiene, meal preparation, and cooking skills.
  • Adapt teaching to meet the needs of students with SEMH and additional learning needs.
  • Encourage students to develop essential life skills and an understanding of healthy eating.
  • Ensure students are prepared for GCSE, BTEC, or vocational qualifications where applicable.
  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement, using strategies to re-engage students who may have had disrupted education.
  • Maintain a safe and structured learning environment, following health and safety regulations in a kitchen setting.
  • Work closely with pastoral staff, teaching assistants, and external agencies to support students’ personal and academic development.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have Experience In:

  • Teaching Food Technology or Catering in a PRU, alternative provision, or SEND setting.
  • Supporting students with SEMH, behavioural challenges, or additional learning needs.
  • Using hands-on, practical learning to engage students who may struggle in a traditional classroom setting.
  • Teaching GCSE, BTEC, or vocational Food Technology to secondary-aged students.
  • Managing a safe and well-organised kitchen/classroom environment.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching Food Technology to secondary-aged students.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and safety regulations within an educational setting.
  • A clear enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply for one).
  • The legal right to work in the UK.
