Justteachers is seeking a full time SEN Teaching assistant to work 1 to 1 at a SEN school based in Preston.

This school is a primary and secondary SEN school with children aged between 5-18. They also have a separate 6th form site for students post 16. Working as a 1 to 1 SEN Teaching assistant here will require you to think on your feet, always be proactive and engaging with the students to ensure they have the best day.

Responsibilities:

  • Working 1 to 1
  • Supporting class teacher
  • Leading small groups
  • Reporting to class teacher to implement specialised plan for the student you’re working with
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and promoting independence through the use of clear, consistent approaches.
  • Building positive relationships with parents and caregivers, maintaining open communication about student progress and well-being.

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience in working with students with SEND (e.g., autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, physical disabilities)
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills, with a patient and empathetic approach
  • Ability to work collaboratively with support staff and other professionals
  • A commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in a SEND-specific teaching role
  • Knowledge of specific SEND interventions and strategies
  • Familiarity with EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans)
  • A proactive and flexible approach to teaching
