E-directory for Continual Professional Development (CPD)
justteachers fully supports teachers in their CPD by drawing on external esources offered by local authorities and boroughs to provide further training and advice to help improve attributes, knowledge, understanding and skills and thus improve their professional practice.
Every teacher is important to us and we take time to listen to the individual’s needs and what they need to do to achieve their professional development.
CPD can improve teaching by:
• developing and sustaining skills which enable staff to do their jobs effectively
• updating knowledge
• developing best practices
• widening the repertoire of classroom skills
• enhancing strong practice
• developing specialisations thus improving teaching quality
There are many possible sources of CPD, each school will have its own view of the nature and role of CPD, and the form it will take in that school will depend on the school’s principles and philosophy relating to professional development.
Comprehensive information on the UK National Curriculum
Pay rate guide for teachers
Unlike other teacher agencies, justteachers don’t pay a flat rate. Our rates of pay and benefits are determined by your skills and experience and are based on the main pay scale. They will vary according to the length, nature and location of the job and the level of your experience. We strive to ensure that our pay rates reflect the costs of living in the location where you are placed. Generally, you can expect to earn a higher rate of pay for longer term position rather than supply teaching.
For teachers seeking long term work, there are two ways in which you can be paid:
- Byjustteachers – Your first pay will be deposited into your bank account one week after you start work, and will continue on a weekly basis. Holiday and sick pay are included in your daily rate. Our pay rates are constantly reviewed in order to remain competitive.
- By the school – In this instance, we will negotiate a salary with the school and they will pay you directly. Your pay will be based on an annual salary and will be paid in monthly installments for the duration of the position. Payment will usually occur at the end of a calendar month, one month in arrears. All teachers being placed on work permits will be paid by this method.
Unless you have a UK tax exemption, it is a legal requirement that both Income Tax and National Insurance are deducted from your gross pay. Your net pay will depend on your personal circumstances. For more information visit the HM Revenue & Customs website at www.hmrc.gov.uk
Your justteachers dedicated consultant will discuss pay rates in more detail during your interview but you can be assured that we pay on-time, weekly and directly into your bank account. We work with schools to ensure that the rate you receive reflects the work that you do.
CVs – with advice on what to include an a downloadable CV template
A Curriculum Vitae (CV) is a document detailing your qualifications, work experience, skills, interests and a short profile of your self. Getting an interview can depend on how good your CV is
Here are some helpful tips on producing a good CV:
• Your CV provides an opportunity to show you have the skills and the experience for the job
• Do some research about the educational school i.e. recent Ofsted report
• A CV is not your life story - It should be tailored to the post you are applying for
• Focus on the job advert or specification and what the employer is asking for
• Your CV should be concise and easy to read with space between each section and ideally no more than two pages long. Use positive language. Check for grammar and spelling mistakes. Get it checked by someone
• Start with your personal details – name, address and contact details. There is no requirement to state date of birth or marital status
• A short personal profile should outline your qualities, skills and achievements. It should spark the reader’s interest
• Employment history - If you have employment history then start with your most recent job and work back, including each employer, dates of employment, job title and a brief outline of main duties
• Employers need to see how your experiences would be useful to them. This is information used to short list candidates for interview
• Try to avoid any unexplained gaps in employment; do include any unpaid / voluntary work/ gap year experience
• Education and Training - Start with the most recent study; do include dates, qualification and grades. Include any courses if relevant
• Hobbies and interests - These often give employers an indication of your strengths and people skills especially if you are involved with the community/clubs etc. Also include skills such as driving, IT skills, languages
• Additional information - Any relevant information you may wish to include
• References - minimum of two, one must be from your current post
• Do not include a photo unless requested to do so
• Do not lie as everything is checked.
Interview Guidelines – what to expect
A shortlist of 3-5 candidates is produced following an interview and in most cases the decision is made on the day of the interview
• An interview panel may consist of the Head teacher, Chair of Governors, senior members of staff and may be the County Inspector
• Candidates are normally given a tour of the school and the opportunity to ask questions before the interview
• Candidates need to do some research on the school – look at the last Ofsted report and read the school prospectus
• Candidates need to be smart, on time and prepared – You may need to present proof of qualifications
• Candidates need to be confident about the requirements of the post and be prepared to answer questions about their ability and knowledge of the subject
• Candidates from other countries need to make themselves aware of the National Curriculum especially for their subject area
• Response to questions should be positive,if you do not fully understand ask for the question to be repeated
• Questions will cover the following areas: commitment to the teaching profession, classroom management, curriculum development, behaviour management, differentiation, any achievements within past year, any interest in extra curricular
activities
• Most schools require candidates to deliver a lesson/part lesson. In most cases the candidates are informed of the content of the lesson before hand, on the odd occasion they are asked to deliver a lesson already prepared for them. If you are asked to plan and deliver a lesson make sure that it has:
1. A beginning (At least a starter activity and clear objectives)
2. A middle (Learning opportunities doing detail / activity / progression routes / NC levels indicated)
3. An end (What has been learned summarised and pointers for next lesson)
• Posts of responsibility may request a presentation on a given topic
• Candidates should be prepared with a couple of questions at least, to ask the interview panel
• If unsuccessful, candidates should have feedback to help them understand why they were unsuccessful and so they can improve their technique.
